SMP - Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation is another treatment for men and women suffering from hair loss and can be a life changing experience. This treatment involves the deposit of ink pigments on the scalp to create the illusion of hair follicles on the scalp and can be used to create a buzz cut look, create density, and also camouflage scars. This treatment does not replace the candidate’s hair but instead the dots of layered pigments create the illusion of dots that look like natural hair follicles and blend in seamlessly to the client’s complexion.

The Treatment

The Procedure

Tips before treatment

Shower before each treatment. You will not be able to wash or wet your scalp (this includes sweating excessively) for four days after each appointment.

Treatment duration

Each treatment typically takes between four and five hours.

Treatment amount

How many treatments you need will depend on the amount of scalp getting SMP. Even if it is only for a small area like a widow’s peak, the recommended number of treatments would still be three to four sessions for long-term retention since SMP is a process of layering colour.

Treatment schedule

Treatments will be scheduled a few weeks apart. In the weeks between treatments, do not go swimming, use steam or sauna rooms, or take extremely hot showers that may cause a steam storm.

After your final treatment, it is essential to:

  • Avoid swimming, saunas, and steam rooms for 28 days after your final treatment.
  • Keep out of the sun for 14 days after treatment. Thereafter, use SPF 30–50 sunscreen.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for five days after your final treatment.

Benefits of Scalp Micropigmentation

  • It makes it look like you have a fuller, thicker head of hair.
  • It camouflages alopecia symptoms in perpetuity, whether they are severe or recurrent.
  • It covers scars from a hair transplant or FUE procedure.
  • It helps in concealing birthmarks or burn or accident-related scars.
  • It combines well with a hair transplant to offer additional density.
  • Lifestyle change
